The 2013-14 NFL season is officially in the books and man, was it a good one or what? We saw all sorts of unexpected things this year. We saw the lovely town of Seattle win their first professional football title. We saw the Kansas City Chiefs go from a two-win team to one of the best team’s in the NFL. We saw the Carolina Panthers go from having a a joke of a head coach to turning that same guy into the NFL Coach of the Year. We also didn’t see Tim Tebow start an NFL game this season, which is a good thing because finally the entire NFL world has come to the understanding that the guy just can’t throw a football. If Bill Belichick can’t find a way for you to contribute on the field, it might be time to embrace your inner acting and journalistic bone, which it appears as though Tebow is finally doing.
Anyway, with the 13-14 season behind us, it’s time to look ahead. Before we get to next season’s plate of games though, we have a wonderful thing called the NFL off-season and this little beauty is a guide that I wrote up to help NFL fans of all shapes and sizes see exactly what kind of shape their favorite NFL team is in headed into the off-season. In this guide, you will find all sorts of delicious information that I’m sure will overwhelm you, but that’s what the NFL off-season does to people. It can be exhausting. If you don’t believe me, just go interview your local favorite NFL general manager and ask him how much sleep he’s been getting. Chances are he’ll start repeating NFL combine 40 times and totally confuse the crap out of you.
So, without any further adieu. I present to you…..
Dustin James’ 2014-15 NFL Off-Season Guide!

Welcome, welcome, welcome! If you are a regular reader here at “THE MAN-CAVE” you are more than likely familiar with me. My name is Dustin James and I’m the resident “moronic football predictor” around these parts. Football is easily my favorite sport and I get so excited at the start of the season that I just can’t resist predicting any and everything I possibly can. This year is no different. Since I spent a good two months on my college football preview here at “THE MAN-CAVE”, I decided to whip up some quick NFL predictions as well. By no means am I an “NFL expert”, I just happen to be a huge fan who wants to share his opinion with others. Last year I predicted the Baltimore Ravens to win the Super Bowl over the Green Bay Packers and while I kind of whiffed on the Packers, I absolutely nailed my Super Bowl pick. So, considering I’m on a roll right now with my NFL predictions, what do you say we stop wasting time and get to the good stuff already? Sounds good to me……
It’s that time of year again! It’s easily one of my favorite times of the year (sports and non-sports included) and hopefully it’s one of yours as well. That’s right, it’s NFL DRAFT SEASON BABY!!! The NFL Draft is important for plenty of reasons. One reason it’s important is because it’s the main factor in how your NFL team improves from year to year. A major common misconception among NFL fans is that the best way to make immediate improvements to your teams is in free agency. That’s wrong. If you take a look back at all the past NFL champions, they are teams who have historically drafted well and don’t really do too much in free agency. Free agents in the NFL are free agents for a reason. They are free agents because their last team didn’t feel that they were worth as much as the player thinks he’s worth so that guy goes packing and most of the time, he goes to another team and the truth is finally revealed a little bit down the road….that he really wasn’t worth all that money he was asking for.
That’s why the NFL Draft is so important. Look at the Washington Redskins for example. They were a team that “won” the NFL’s free agency period for years! Did that ever lead to any kind of great results on the field? No! Then last year, the team goes out and has an excellent draft and BOOM….the Redskins are one of the hottest teams in the league now! Every single draft pick in the draft is important as teams can find immediate starters as late as in the seventh-round. For a team that was horrible last year, the draft is huge as they really do have the opportunity to make immediate improvements next season (Colts and Redskins are perfect examples). The 2013 NFL Draft isn’t loaded with big names, but it’s loaded with potential starters all over the place and there are a lot of teams that could walk away from this draft with 6-7 guys ready to start tomorrow. Are you excited yet?
Before we actually get to the good stuff, I figure we should get the introduction out of the way. For those of you who have been following all the action here at “THE MAN CAVE”, you should be familiar with me as I’m the designated “draft” guy here. First of all, I don’t consider myself an NFL Draft expert by any means, I just consider myself a fanatic. I read pretty much EVERY single mock draft I can get my hands on. I also read a lot of scouting reports on these guys and I like to think I know a little bit about what I’m talking about. College football is my favorite sport in the world (GO OREGON DUCKS!) and watching players that I’ve seen over the course of their college careers finally make the jump to the NFL is awesome. The reason I write this mock draft is pretty much for my enjoyment only because I like to see how accurate I can be when it’s all said and done. Considering I go through all the work of writing it up….I may as well post it for everyone else to see. With all that said, LET’S GET DOWN TO BIZNESS!
Week 12 thoughts on the Carolina Panthers team building victory over the lifeless Philadelphia Eagles.
Steve Cook joins the Man Cave to preview the upcoming NFL season in detail. We’ll look at all the teams, give our playoff picks, give our Super Bowl picks, and go out on some limbs. Cook will call the Steelers defense old, I’ll praise the Patriots offense, Cook will try and sell me on the Panthers winning the division, and much more. Plus we’ll make some friendly wagers at the end of the show.
