NFL Thoughts – 2014 NFL Mock Draft

One of my favorite non-sporting events in the sporting world is quickly approaching. The NFL Draft is finally right around the corner and I couldn’t be more excited. This year is a special NFL Draft due to the overall quality of the players in the draft. Last year was a weak year for rookies. The Kansas City Chiefs ended up drafting Eric Fisher with the #1 pick last year and yet it’s highly doubtful that Fisher would even go in the top 20 of this year’s draft, that’s how loaded it is. Not only is this draft loaded with talented players, but it’s also loaded with interesting players as well. Guys like Jadeveon Clowney and Johnny Manziel already have huge followings of fans who are dying to see where these players end up, making this one of the most anticipated NFL Draft’s in sometime. Anyway, enough with the formalities. You guys know what this is all about and I’m sure you would rather be reading a mock draft than an introduction soooooo…….

NFL Thoughts – 2014 Post-Combine Mock Draft

Welcome to the annual “Dustin James’ NFL Mock Draft (that is sure to be wrong)!” Of course, the NFL season ended over a month ago and it’s time for teams to look to improve their rosters and compete for a title next season. It’s been proven time and time again that the quickest way to turn your team into an NFL title contender is through the NFL draft. As a matter of fact, the Seattle Seahawks reminded everyone just how important the NFL draft is (and the Oakland Raiders keep reminding people that they don’t take the draft seriously, which is why they’ve sucked for 10+ years now). They pretty much built their entire team through the NFL draft and just added a few pieces in free agency (Free agency is the most overrated way to improve your team. Players are free agents because their previous team didn’t want to pay them what they feel they are worth, so the team lets them walk and they go and grab a younger, cheaper player in the draft). As a matter of fact, most of the playoffs teams from last year or all teams who have rosters loaded with guys they drafted (Carolina, Kansas City, Cincinnati, etc.), so I can’t articulate enough how important it is to have a good draft every year.

Now, it is only March and the draft is still two months away so a lot can still happen between now and then. It’s almost impossible to predict what NFL teams are thinking heading into the draft, but that’s why mock drafts are so fun to do. For the record, I don’t consider myself an NFL Draft expert, I consider myself a little bit of an obsessive fan. I read pretty much any mock draft I can get my hands on (if your dog writes a mock draft, send it my way), I watch tons of scouting videos over at DraftBreakdown.com, and I try and pay attention to what NFL writers are saying about how certain teams are feeling heading into the draft. This is the first time I’ve done a mock draft before free agency starts (free agency starts on March 8), so I’ll be back with my final version once free agency ends and the draft is in sight. I know, you are DYING to see that one to, but you gotta have patience young man, patience!

Anyway, let’s get to the goods!

NFL Thoughts – 2013-14 NFL Off-Season Guide

February 7, 2014 Leave a comment

The 2013-14 NFL season is officially in the books and man, was it a good one or what? We saw all sorts of unexpected things this year. We saw the lovely town of Seattle win their first professional football title. We saw the Kansas City Chiefs go from a two-win team to one of the best team’s in the NFL. We saw the Carolina Panthers go from having a a joke of a head coach to turning that same guy into the NFL Coach of the Year. We also didn’t see Tim Tebow start an NFL game this season, which is a good thing because finally the entire NFL world has come to the understanding that the guy just can’t throw a football. If Bill Belichick can’t find a way for you to contribute on the field, it might be time to embrace your inner acting and journalistic bone, which it appears as though Tebow is finally doing.

Anyway, with the 13-14 season behind us, it’s time to look ahead. Before we get to next season’s plate of games though, we have a wonderful thing called the NFL off-season and this little beauty is a guide that I wrote up to help NFL fans of all shapes and sizes see exactly what kind of shape their favorite NFL team is in headed into the off-season. In this guide, you will find all sorts of delicious information that I’m sure will overwhelm you, but that’s what the NFL off-season does to people. It can be exhausting. If you don’t believe me, just go interview your local favorite NFL general manager and ask him how much sleep he’s been getting. Chances are he’ll start repeating NFL combine 40 times and totally confuse the crap out of you.

So, without any further adieu. I present to you…..

NFL Thoughts – 2013-14 NFL Season Predictions

September 4, 2013 1 comment

Welcome, welcome, welcome! If you are a regular reader here at “THE MAN-CAVE” you are more than likely familiar with me. My name is Dustin James and I’m the resident “moronic football predictor” around these parts. Football is easily my favorite sport and I get so excited at the start of the season that I just can’t resist predicting any and everything I possibly can. This year is no different. Since I spent a good two months on my college football preview here at “THE MAN-CAVE”, I decided to whip up some quick NFL predictions as well. By no means am I an “NFL expert”, I just happen to be a huge fan who wants to share his opinion with others. Last year I predicted the Baltimore Ravens to win the Super Bowl over the Green Bay Packers and while I kind of whiffed on the Packers, I absolutely nailed my Super Bowl pick. So, considering I’m on a roll right now with my NFL predictions, what do you say we stop wasting time and get to the good stuff already? Sounds good to me……

Steve Cook joins the Man Cave for our weekly NFL playoff chat. We’ll look back at the divisional games and talk about the Broncos and John Fox being morons, the Seahawks and Pete Carroll mismanaging the first half, why the Falcons shouldn’t be happy with one win, and the awesomeness of Colin Kaepernick. Then we’ll preview the conference title games, one of which should be really good while the other one could get pretty ugly.
